In one line
Grab it if you refill from hotel sinks and airport taps and want the water to taste of nothing.
Look elsewhere if viruses are the concern. The Grayl GeoPress purifies them.
What to know about the LifeStraw Go
Reach for this when the tap is the problem: hotel sinks and gas stations. The listing says the filter removes bacteria and parasites, and the carbon stage reduces chlorine and odors.
Numbers from the listing: 2.64 in square and 10.79 in tall, 8.7 oz, and a 0.65 L capacity. The carbon filter is the running cost, since it lasts about two months while the membrane lasts years.
It does not purify viruses. For that, see the Grayl GeoPress in the alternatives.

Living with it
Two filters, two clocks
The membrane filter is rated for about 1,000 gallons, around five years of daily use, and handles bacteria, parasites and microplastics. The carbon stage lasts about 26 gallons, roughly two months, and handles chlorine taste and odor. Plan the running cost around that carbon stage. Replace it on time.
Drinking from it
Expect to pull harder. Water passes through the filter before it reaches the mouthpiece, so every sip takes a little more effort than a plain straw, and the first day with it feels slower than you would like before it starts to feel normal. CleverHiker also saw water spurt from a full bottle when the lid came off; leaving some air at the top fixed it.
Plain water only
The filter rules out drink mixes. If you like electrolytes on a hike, CleverHiker points out that the Grayl's one-way valve allows them.

Common questions
Will water taste metallic?

FAQ
How tall is the LifeStraw Go, and how wide is the base?
10.79 in tall and 2.64 in across the base on the 10/28/2026 listing. The 2.64 in base is the narrowest in our set, so it drops into almost any cup holder or side pocket.
How much does the LifeStraw Go weigh full?
8.7 oz empty on the listing, so roughly 31.6 oz with all 22 oz of water inside. CleverHiker's scale agrees on 8.7 oz, light for a bottle with two filters inside.
Can the LifeStraw Go go in the dishwasher?
CleverHiker lists it as dishwasher-safe. Keep the filter parts out of the dishwasher unless LifeStraw's leaflet says otherwise.
Is the LifeStraw Go worth it?
Yes, if you refill from hotel sinks and airport taps and want the water to taste of nothing.
What should I buy instead of the LifeStraw Go?
viruses are the concern. The Grayl GeoPress purifies them.
